Sarah Purkey is an oceanographer at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UC San Diego).Dr. Purkey studies the ocean's role in the climate system, particularly the mechanisms and impacts of ocean heat uptake. Her work involves measuring changes in ocean temperature and salinity over time, analyzing data from global observation programs like Argo and GO-SHIP, and developing tools to understand the ocean's circulation and thermodynamics.
Sarah has received numerous awards and fellowships for her research, including the Distinguished Dissertation Award in Physical Science & Engineering from the University of Washington Graduate School (2015) and the NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship (2011-2014).
She is an active member of the American Geophysical Union and the American Meteorological Society, and has served as the lead science program organizer for the 6th Graduate Climate Conference.
